Wide format printing on DuPont™ Tyvek®

Signs and banners made of Tyvek® can be printed using traditional offset, screen or flexographic processes. They can also be printed with excellent results on inkjet presses. For wide format inkjet printing on UV-cure equipment, plain Tyvek® can be used; aqueous, solventor eco-solvent inks require the Tyvek® substrate to be coated.

Tyvek® and the environment

The exceptionally low basis weight of DuPont™ Tyvek® allows more banners to be produced per roll, potentially reducing energy use in transportation. Because Tyvek® is made of high-density polyethylene, signs and banners made of Tyvek® can be readily recycled into products such as drainpipes, decks and playground equipment at the end of their useful life. Tyvek® can also be safely incinerated, and because it yields water and carbon dioxide, it essentially leaves no residue for disposal. And, if recycling or incineration are not options, Tyvek® can be safely landfilled. Because it is chemically inert and contains no binders, Tyvek® will not leach into groundwater.

They can resist strong sunlight when light-fast inks are used and won’t yellow over time. The non-glare surface allows low reflectivity for easy reading, even in the face of reflection.

Rolling display panels made with thin, lightweight Tyvek® allow more ads to be produced per roll compared with other substrates. In addition, these panels are weather-resistant and retain their good looks even when repeatedly rolled and unrolled.
